| Memorial Day Prayer
Freedom and peace do not come easy. There's a big price attached to it. And a nation as big as America was no exception. America's freedom didn't come easy either. It came out of the price the people of the nation paid through their patience in the war-torn times, the price the nation's millions of soldiers paid by braving the enemies in the line of fire and the price the fallen heroes paid by laying down their lives defending the nation. It is these men and women in uniform whom we remember and venerate on Memorial Day. For generations, they've fought in land, air and seas to protect America's democracy and peace. For ages, they've preserved the nation's freedom and ensured national security in the face of continuous threats. It is these men and women whom America can never forget and never fail to honor.
Memorial Day was thus set aside as a day to honor the nation's war-dead, without whose services America wouldn't have been what it is now. In today's fast-paced world of ever-increasing arms-race and power-struggles, the only need for the hour can be the need for peace. So Memorial Day serves this cause to call for peace in the nation, as much as in the whole world.
Memorial Day prayer is, therefore, predominantly a prayer for everlasting peace and security. On Memorial Day, the nation is urged to pray for the lost souls and also observe the day with special Memorial Day prayers which focuses on peace against rising terrorism across the globe. Memorial Day prayer is a united effort in the right direction of making the world a better place to live in and of putting an end to the bitter struggles prevailing everywhere. The country's millions of civilians and servicemen take time out on every Memorial Day to pray for the nation's war heroes and for permanent peace in the world.
Red poppies form an important part of Memorial Day prayers. These flowers are deeply associated with the Memorial Day holiday because the redness of the poppies signifies the blood of the veterans that has been sacrificed to bring freedom to the nation. Red poppies became a part of Memorial Day in 1915 to honor the men and women in uniform. And in Memorial Day memorials and church services, it is quite common for Americans to wear red poppies while the Memorial Day prayers are in progress.
Each year on Memorial Day, the President of U.S delivers a speech to the nation, urging all to unite in a special Memorial Day prayer and take time out to do some honors in their own individual ways to those who fell in defense of America's liberty. Every American is asked to observe the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. local time through silent prayers and solemn benedictions.
America, a nation swept up in the war against terrorism, takes up Memorial Day as an opportunity to pray for global peace and national security. United and focused, Americans pray to the Creator and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, on Memorial Day for lasting peace on earth. So participate in the Memorial Day observances and Memorial Day prayers with duty, concern and sincere gratitude in your hearts for the nation's millions of veterans.
