|  Memorial Day Kids' Activity
Memorial Day is one very important patriotic holiday in the US calendar which deserves honor and deep regard. A day set aside to commemorate the American soldiers who gave up their lives fighting, Memorial Day, sure calls for duty and concern. Hence it's a duty for every American adult to pass on the significance of Memorial Day to the following generations.
Kids' activity for the Memorial Day holiday must include activities that pertain to the Memorial Day observances. First and foremost, grow interest in the children about Memorial Day and its history. And the best way to do it is to make things interactive. Who likes long lectures on wars and bloodshed? Last of all, the children! So to make Memorial Day more exciting, make the kids' activities as much interactive as possible so that their interest and enthusiasm are retained till the end of whatever they're engaged in. To get you started, here's some ideas for the kids' activities on Memorial Day:
- Read out Memorial Day stories to the kids in a way where you pause to let them come up with their own questions.
- Show them movies and documentaries on patriotism and significant American wars that the world had witnessed.
- Many Memorial Day books are available which are written in easy language to make learning fast and comprehensive for the young people. There are, in fact, special Memorial Day (learners' books) books in the market for this purpose. Buy your kid a few of these on Memorial Day. Audio books can be a great idea too!
- Take the kids to some local Memorial Day parade.
- Tell the children about the significance of playing 'Taps' on Memorial Day. The rhythm of the 'Taps' are sure to catch their fancy; at the same time helping them know its close association with the Memorial Day holiday.
- Ask them to make the national flag with paper cutouts and red and blue ink.
- Help them with special crafts on Memorial Day. Inspire them to decorate their houses with red, blue and white papers. For older kids, make them write a short poem or paragraph on the holiday and declare prizes for the best writer.
- Ask them how they think a Memorial Day should be celebrated. That way, you'll be knowing what's in their mind.
- Sing patriotic songs to them and teach them how to sing one on Memorial Day.
- Take them to some memorial or a museum (having military history encased)
- Last but not the least, tell the kids to pray for the brave soldiers' souls and ask them to maintain quiet at 3 p.m. local time, observing the National Moment of Remembrance.
