| Memorial Day Family Activities
With Memorial Day weekend comes the need to speed up on your planning for the fun summer activities. An official marker of the summer season, Memorial Day (last Monday in May) reserves its share of fun games and cool sports with friends and family. So pull up your socks and plan it well in advance. Or, even if you're a lazy-bum, there's nothing to regret. If not a short vacation, you can always enjoy the sun and sand in the beaches or enjoy a sumptuous barbecue picnic party or just relax at home.
Now, whatever you do, it's always double the fun with your family around. So get the family into the Memorial Day weekend celebrations this time. Arrange an outdoor cookout session and savor the flavor of the sizzlers or sip some fresh fun with the oh-so-cool slush and lemonades. Memorial Day weekend is just the right day to spend some quality time with your folks. Do as much you want to or just do nothing on the Memorial Day weekend. All you got to do is just enjoy the three-day long weekend in your loved ones company.
Many American families plan a short trip to some weekend getaway and make the most of the three-day holiday. But in case they can't manage one, a backyard Memorial Day weekend party is sure to follow. Now, in this case make sure you pack as much games as possible in your agenda. That's the best way to keep the little kiddos busy as you nick a cool shot at golf and tee-off to a terrific time on your Memorial Day weekend.
Better still, if you can take up one day from the three days to tell the young ones about Memorial Day history or about how the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine and Coast Guards protected us and have been doing so for years. Take Memorial Day as a chance to educate the young generation about the nation's military history. This is one way of paying your tributes to the war heroes of the nation.
You can also play the 'Taps' and listen to it with all your loved ones around on Memorial Day. Taps is the special tune for the Memorial Day services and is played on a trumpet. Playing 'Taps' is the highest honor given to those who died serving the country in wars. So do your bit of honoring the combat veterans by playing taps on the Memorial Day weekend. You can also visit a cemetery with your family to decorate the soldiers' graves with flowers, wreaths and flags. And there's the Memorial Day ceremony too. So attend one such memorial with your family on Memorial Day and put some meaning into your Memorial Day weekend.
But whatever you do, make it a point to refrain from whatever family activity you are engaged in and observe a moment of silence in remembrance of the fallen heroes on Memorial Day. Take pride in the courageous and intrepid soldiers who braved the onslaughts to secure the nation and its people. Give them their due respect in your own individual ways on Memorial Day.
