Fourth of July Recipes

Don't you think 4th of July, the day which celebrates the sweet taste of America's freedom, is an occasion which gives you every reason to cook up dishes and get your folks slobbering for more? Yes, of course it is! So, as you rejoice with friends and family, sharing the pride of being an American on 4th of July, don't be any less enthusiastic about the menu. You sure got to have an equally A-one Fourth of July recipes at your fingertips to thrill your folks on this grand occasion as you have the celebration part charted out days ahead of 4th of July.

Now, while there's a huge lot that you can make, bake or cook on 4th of July, it's better to have at least some quintessential Fourth of July recipes right before you, so that you can at least get started when you don't have much time and yet, need the accolades for being a great cook on 4th of July. So here they are:

Fourth of July Special Cake (always a hit with the 4th of July mood)

Ingredients:
Margarine
Flour
1 pack (2-layer size) white cake mix (plus ingredients that are listed on pack)
1 pack (4-serving size) gelatin or any red flavor
1/2 cup cold water
1 cup boiling water
3 1/2 cups (8-ounce container) cold and thawed whipped topping
1 pint strawberries, cleaned and sliced
1 cup blueberries, cleaned
1 cup marshmallows

Accessories needed:
13 x 9 baking pan
Large fork (two-pronged type)
Medium-size mixing bowls
Mixer
Measuring cup
Rubber scraper or large spoon
Large tray or cutting board
Table knife
Aluminum foil

Directions:
Smear the 13 x 9 pan with margarine and dust lightly with flour. Mix and bake the cake-mix according to directions. Cool the baked cake for 15 minutes. With a large fork, make holes in the cake about every 1/2 inch.

Pour red-colored gelatin into mixing bowl. Add a cup of boiling water and use scraper to mix thoroughly until gelatin is completely dissolved. Use the measuring cup to pour gelatin over cake, including the holes. This is done so that when the cake is cut, it will show red stripes in a white background (since the cake is white).

Now after this is done, chill cake in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 hours.

Cover tray with aluminum foil.

Put about one inch of warm water in kitchen sink. Take pan out of refrigerator and dip bottom (don't let water come up over sides) into water for about 10 seconds. Put large tray on top of cake, and invert.

Frost sides and top of cake with whipped cream topping. Arrange strawberries and marshmallows in alternating rows for stripes, leaving upper left for field of blueberries. Chill again until time to serve. And finally your yummy patriotic red, white and blue 4th of July special cake is ready!
