DIWALI SWEETS

Diwali is the occasion to savor the sweet taste of the spirit of celebration. It is the time to catch up with old friends and family members and to pay visit to the near and dear ones with some sumptuous home made sweet delicacies. As they indulge in some wholesome family fun, chatting and rejoicing the festivities of Diwali, they give no less importance to the various mouth watering recipes specially prepared for Diwali. The delightful and sugary spirit of Diwali celebration is reflected in the various lip smacking sweet dishes that’s all the rage during Diwali.

One of the long standing recipes of Diwali is the traditional sweet called Gujia, a delicious sweetmeat made from flour, khoya, a kind of hard, dried cream, sugar and raisins for toppings.

A similar delicacy, called Kheer is one of the most popular recipes during Diwali, prepared from milk, lots of sugar and rice, it’s quite like whipped cream, but much richer and thick. This really yummy sweetmeat can be served garnished with cashew nuts, raisins and cardamoms.

One of the staple dishes on Diwali is the Malpua. This mouthwatering sweet is particularly popular among the people of Eastern India. Made from flour, milk, curd and sugar its preparation is very similar to the cooking of pancake. When served with pista or cream, Malpua, can give your taste buds a joyride !

The most well known sweet of Diwali is undeniably the Laddu. Popular among young and old alike, Laddu made from gram flour, ghee and sugar is the most common sweet as well. Chopped almond and raisins toppings add to its gastronomic appeal.

Kaju Barfi is another delicious and  traditional sweet, devoured generously during the Diwali .Cashew nuts, sugar, saffron are used to prepare this lip smacking yet easy-to-make sweet dish. Garnished with raisins and pista, Kaju Barfi can be one of the most sought after items on Diwali menu.

Visit to the friends and family or just a family get together at home are incomplete with constant supply of such mouth watering Diwali delicacies at regular interval. Whether the sweets are home made or bought from the local market, one thing is sure that this lip smacking sweets are the ideal companion along with your loved ones for hours of joy.
