 Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree, just like Santa Claus, is a very well known and cherished symbol of Christmas worldwide. Every year, during Christmas, people bring home an evergreen and decorate it with candles, bells, ribbons, tinsel, popcorn strings and candy canes. This tradition of a Christmas tree began in Germany long long ago. Then, it eventually spread throughout Europe, and in 1841, the English royal family brought in the first Christmas tree at Windsor Castle. This further popularized the practice. The tradition of a Christmas tree took hold in the United States when Calvin Coolidge lit the first Christmas tree at the White House in 1923. It’s now more than common to decorate an evergreen on Christmas! The President of America lights the National Christmas Tree in Washington every year to start off the festivities.
